ShieldGPS monitors driving events that indicate unsafe or costly driving habits. By automatically detecting speeding, harsh braking, and harsh acceleration, the platform gives you objective data to coach drivers, reduce wear on your vehicles, lower fuel consumption, and build a case for reduced insurance premiums.

Monitored Driving Events

Speeding

Detected when the tracker exceeds a speed threshold you configure in the device settings. An alert is sent immediately when the threshold is crossed.

Harsh Braking

Detected when a sudden, sharp deceleration occurs — the kind caused by emergency stops or aggressive driving. The event is logged with its time and location.

Harsh Acceleration

Detected when a rapid increase in speed occurs — typically associated with aggressive pull-aways that increase fuel consumption and tyre wear.

Driver Score

ShieldGPS compiles individual driving events into an overall driver score, giving you a quick at-a-glance measure of driving quality over any time period.

View Driver Behaviour Data

1

Open the app and select a device

Launch the ShieldGPS app on iOS or Android, or sign in at shieldgps.co/dashboard. Tap the device you want to review.
2

Tap 'Infractions' or 'Driver Score'

Navigate to the Infractions or Driver Score tab on the device detail screen. You’ll see a chronological list of detected driving events and the overall score.
3

Tap an event for detail

Tap any individual event to see its date, time, location on the map, and severity. This makes it straightforward to discuss specific incidents with a driver.

Configure Speed Alerts

To set the speed threshold for speeding detection, go to the device Settings screen and enter your preferred limit. The tracker will generate an alert the moment it is exceeded — and the event is logged in the Infractions history for future review. You can update the threshold at any time to match different vehicles, zones, or policies.

Business Benefits

Use the Infractions log to have informed, evidence-based conversations with drivers. Specific events — with timestamps, locations, and severity — remove ambiguity and help drivers understand and improve their habits.
Harsh acceleration and high-speed driving are among the biggest contributors to excess fuel use. Reducing these behaviours can produce measurable savings across a fleet, particularly for businesses running multiple vehicles.
Many commercial insurers offer premium reductions for fleets that can demonstrate safe driving records. The driver behaviour data from ShieldGPS provides documented evidence you can share with your insurer.
Harsh braking and acceleration detection is available on select ShieldGPS devices. Check your device’s user guide or contact support@shieldgps.co to confirm whether your specific model supports this feature.
