Installation

Locate your OBD-II port

Find the 16-pin OBD-II socket in your vehicle — it is typically located beneath the steering column on the driver’s side of the dashboard. On most cars it is unobstructed; on some models it sits behind a small plastic cover. The port is a trapezoidal shape and is easy to identify once you know what to look for.

Turn off the ignition

Switch off the engine and turn the ignition fully off before plugging in the OB22. This protects both the device and your vehicle’s ECU.

Plug in the OB22

Align the OB22 with the OBD-II port and push it in firmly until it clicks into place. The device is designed to sit as flush and low-profile as possible to remain hidden under the dashboard.

Activate your subscription

Visit shieldgps.co/activate and register your OB22 using the 15-digit IMEI printed on the device and its packaging. An active subscription is required before the device can transmit location data.

Turn on the ignition

Turn the ignition to the accessory or run position. The OB22 will power on immediately and begin acquiring GPS signal and connecting to the network.

Verify in the app

Open the ShieldGPS app and confirm your OB22 is showing a live location on the map. Allow up to 2 minutes for the first GPS fix.

Powering On & First Use

The OB22 receives power automatically from the OBD-II port — there is no battery to charge and no power button to press. In most vehicles the port is live when the ignition is on; in some vehicles it carries constant power. Either way, the OB22 will power on and off in line with your vehicle’s OBD-II power supply. On first use, allow up to 2 minutes for the device to:
  1. Acquire a GPS signal
  2. Register on the cellular network
  3. Begin sending location updates to the ShieldGPS platform
If your vehicle’s OBD-II port supplies constant power, the OB22 will remain active even when the ignition is off — giving you movement and tow alerts around the clock.

Connecting to the App

Download the ShieldGPS app

Install the ShieldGPS app from the App Store or Google Play. You can also access your account from any browser at shieldgps.co/dashboard.

Log in to your account

Open the app and sign in with the credentials you created during activation.

Add your OB22

Tap Add Device and enter the 15-digit IMEI number printed on the OB22 unit and packaging.

Confirm live tracking

Your OB22 will appear on the map. Tap the device icon to view its real-time location, speed, and ignition status. Location updates every 10 seconds.

ShieldGPS Platform

For most UK users, the ShieldGPS app and web dashboard at shieldgps.co/dashboard provide full live tracking, geofences, route history, and alerts.

Tracksolid Platform

Users in France, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain can also access the OB22 via the Tracksolid platform — refer to your device packaging for Tracksolid login details.

LED Indicator Meanings

A subscription is required for your OB22 to transmit live location data. Without an active plan, the device cannot send updates to the app or dashboard. Visit Activate Your Tracker to set up or manage your subscription.
