How Smart Lock Differs from a Regular Geofence
ShieldGPS offers two ways to set location-based alerts:Regular Geofence
A permanent zone you draw on the map. It stays active indefinitely and is ideal for recurring locations — such as a home address, workplace, or depot. You configure the shape and size manually.
Smart Lock
A temporary, single-use geofence set instantly at your tracker’s exact current position with one tap. It requires no drawing or configuration and is ideal for one-off situations, like parking in an unfamiliar street or car park.
How to Activate Smart Lock
1
Open the ShieldGPS App and Select Your Device
Launch the ShieldGPS app on iOS or Android and tap the device you want to protect from the map view or device list.
2
Confirm the Tracker's Location Is Up to Date
Check that the location shown on the map reflects where your tracker currently is. If the position looks stale, tap the refresh icon to request the latest location update before proceeding.
3
Tap the Smart Lock Icon
Tap the padlock icon on the device screen. Smart Lock will activate immediately, setting a geofence boundary at the tracker’s current position.
4
Smart Lock Is Now Active
A padlock icon appears on your device in the map view to confirm Smart Lock is enabled. You will receive an immediate push notification if the tracker moves beyond the boundary.
Deactivating Smart Lock
To turn off Smart Lock, tap the padlock icon again — it will deactivate immediately and no further movement alerts will be sent for that session. Smart Lock is also cleared automatically when a new trip begins, so it won’t trigger false alerts when you drive away. What the Padlock Symbol Means in the App
When you see a padlock icon overlaid on a device in your map view, Smart Lock is currently active for that tracker. A closed padlock means the device is protected — any movement will trigger an alert. No padlock means Smart Lock is off and the device is operating in standard tracking mode.Smart Lock relies on an up-to-date location fix. If your tracker hasn’t reported recently, refresh its location before activating Smart Lock to make sure the boundary is set in the right place.
