# Smart Alerts: Real-Time Notifications for Key Events

> Configure real-time push notifications for movement, geofence crossings, speed, trip start and end — so you never miss an important event.

ShieldGPS sends you real-time notifications for key events so you never miss something important. Rather than watching the map constantly, you can configure exactly which events trigger an alert and let ShieldGPS do the monitoring for you. Alerts are delivered as push notifications on your phone and as in-app messages on the web dashboard.

## Alert Types

| Alert Type     | Trigger                              |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| Movement       | Tracker starts moving                |
| Geofence Entry | Tracker enters a defined zone        |
| Geofence Exit  | Tracker leaves a defined zone        |
| Speed          | Tracker exceeds your set speed limit |
| Trip Start     | A new journey begins                 |
| Trip End       | A journey ends                       |

## Configure Your Alerts

    Launch the ShieldGPS app on iOS or Android, or sign in at [shieldgps.co/dashboard](https://shieldgps.co/dashboard). Tap the device you want to configure alerts for.

  <Step title="Tap 'Alerts' or 'Settings'">
    On the device detail screen, tap **Alerts** or navigate to **Settings** — the exact label varies slightly by platform.

  <Step title="Toggle each alert type on or off">
    Enable the events you want to be notified about and disable any that aren't relevant to you. Changes take effect immediately.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set a speed threshold (for Speed alerts)">
    If you enable the Speed alert, enter the speed limit you want to apply. The alert fires the moment the tracker exceeds that figure. You can update the threshold at any time.

## Notification Methods

  Push notifications require the ShieldGPS app to be installed and notification permissions granted in your phone's settings. If you are not receiving notifications, go to your phone's **Settings → Apps → ShieldGPS → Notifications** and make sure they are enabled.
