# VO1 OBD GPS Tracker — Setup & Installation Guide

> Set up your VO1 4G OBD GPS tracker. No wiring or tools needed — plug it into your vehicle's OBD-II port and start tracking in minutes.

The VO1 is a 4G OBD-II plug-in GPS tracker that requires absolutely no wiring or installation tools. It draws power directly from your vehicle's OBD-II port, so the moment you plug it in the device is powered and ready to go. This makes it the quickest way to get live GPS tracking on any car or light commercial vehicle built after 2001 — no electrician, no drilling, and no permanent modifications to your vehicle.

  <Step title="Locate your OBD-II port">
    The OBD-II port is a 16-pin trapezoidal socket typically found beneath the steering column, on the lower section of the dashboard on the driver's side. In most vehicles it is uncovered and easy to spot; on some models it may be hidden behind a small plastic flap.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Plug in the VO1">
    With the ignition off, firmly push the VO1 into the OBD-II port until it clicks into place. The device should sit flush against the dashboard — if it feels loose, push it in further.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Activate your subscription">
    Before the device can transmit location data, you need an active subscription linked to your VO1. Visit [shieldgps.co/activate](https://shieldgps.co/activate) and follow the on-screen steps to register your device.

## Powering On & First Use

The VO1 receives power directly from the OBD-II port — it powers on and off with the vehicle's ignition in most cars. No charging or battery management is required. On first use, allow up to **2 minutes** for the device to:

1. Acquire a GPS signal
2. Register on the 4G network
3. Begin sending location updates to the ShieldGPS platform

<Info>
  Some vehicles supply constant power to the OBD-II port even when the ignition is off. In those vehicles the VO1 will remain powered and continue tracking at all times.
