# G1C Mini GPS Car Tracker — Setup & Installation Guide

> Set up your G1C mini GPS tracker for cars, vehicles, and motorbikes. Compact and discreet, with step-by-step wiring and app connection instructions.

The G1C is a compact, discreet GPS tracker designed for cars, vehicles, and motorbikes. Its small form factor lets you hide it almost anywhere in a vehicle — behind a dashboard panel, inside a door cavity, or tucked under a seat — making it ideal when you want covert protection without advertising that a tracker is fitted. Once wired in and activated, it reports your vehicle's location every 10 seconds, accurate to a few metres.

## Installation

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose a hiding spot">
    Pick a concealed location inside your vehicle — common spots include behind the dashboard, inside the centre console, beneath a seat, or within a door panel. Make sure the chosen spot allows the device to maintain a clear view of the sky (or at least a thin plastic panel above it) for best GPS signal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect the power lead">
    Connect the **red wire** to a switched or constant 12V power source. A switched source (one that only has power when the ignition is on) is recommended for most car installations. Use an in-line fuse tap on an existing fuse if you prefer a clean, no-cut installation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect the ground lead">
    Connect the **black wire** to a clean chassis ground point — a bare metal bolt on the vehicle's body or frame works well. A poor ground is the most common cause of tracker issues, so make sure the connection is solid.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Secure the device">
    Tuck the G1C unit into your chosen hiding spot. Keep wiring neat and away from heat sources, sharp edges, and moving parts. Use cable ties or adhesive clips to secure loose leads.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Activate your subscription">
    Before the device can transmit location data, you need an active subscription linked to your G1C. Visit [shieldgps.co/activate](https://shieldgps.co/activate) and follow the on-screen steps to register your device.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Power on and verify">
    Turn on the vehicle's ignition (or apply power to the circuit you wired into). The G1C will power on automatically. Check the LED indicators to confirm the device has started up correctly (see LED guide below).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Powering On & First Use

The G1C powers on automatically as soon as it receives power through the wired connection — there is no separate power button. After powering on, allow up to **2 minutes** for the device to:

1. Acquire a GPS signal
2. Connect to the 4G network
3. Begin transmitting location data to the ShieldGPS platform

If you're in an area with weak GPS signal (underground car park, dense urban canyon), the initial fix may take a little longer. Move the vehicle to an open outdoor area for the fastest first fix.

  <Step title="Download the ShieldGPS app">
    Install the ShieldGPS app from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com) or [Google Play](https://play.google.com). You can also access your account via the web dashboard at [shieldgps.co/dashboard](https://shieldgps.co/dashboard).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log in to your account">
    Open the app and sign in with the account you created during activation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your device">
    Tap **Add Device** and enter your G1C's 15-digit IMEI number. You'll find the IMEI printed on the device packaging and inside the app once the device is online.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm live tracking">
    Once added, your G1C will appear on the map. Tap the device icon to see its current location, speed, and status. Location updates every 10 seconds.

<Note>
  A subscription is required for your G1C to transmit live location data. Without an active plan, the device cannot send updates to the app or dashboard. Visit [Activate Your Tracker](/getting-started/activate-your-tracker) to set up or manage your subscription.
</Note>

<Warning>
  The G1C requires direct wiring into your vehicle's electrical system. If you are not experienced with automotive electrics, we strongly recommend having the device installed by a professional auto electrician. Incorrect wiring can damage your vehicle's electrical system and may void your vehicle warranty.
</Warning>

<Tip>
  Connect the G1C to a constant 12V source (not a switched source) so that it remains powered and can detect movement, towing, or unauthorised starts even when the ignition is off — that's when theft is most likely to occur.
